Frequently Asked Questions
Late registration (runtime error 13)
Can't install version 4.0
During installation the message OLE system
files in use is displayed
At the start of the ePM the error 3044 occurs
Activation code is requested each time the
application open
Unable to see all the pesticides
Upgrading system on a new drive
Purchasing network versions
Network installation on a server and workstation
Installation of V3.0 over older versions
Problem
Runtime error 13.
Users of ePM 4.0 who have not registered their copy in 21 days may encounter this bug when attempting to access the program.
Solution
To enable you to enter your temporary code number, please go to:
http://www.pjmann.co.uk/patchmenu.htm Then download the software patch "ePM V4.0 patchA" and follow the instructions given.
PLEASE NOTE you will then need to contact BCPC for a permanent registration code.
Problem
Users of ePM 4.0 who experience a problem installing the program may be using a non-standard date format within their operating system.
Solution
Please go to: http://www.pjmann.co.uk/patchmenu.htm.
Then download the software patch "ePM V4.0 patchA" and follow the instructions given.
Problem
During installation the message OLE system files in use
is displayed
Solution
Restart the computer, close any programs that open automatically
(such as the Office Menu Bar), and install the ePM again
Problem
At the start of the ePM the error 3044 occurs
Solution
The system is unable to locate the database. This could be
because the file has been moved. On a network system the
location of the application (and so the database) needs to
be on a mapped drive on the server. To solve this, map the
drive and then re-install (without uninstalling).
Problem
On a network system, the activation code is requested
each time the application opens
Solution
The activation code was accepted but the system was unable
to save the code. Each user of the system on a network must
have read and write permissions to the directory (and subdirectories)
on the server.
Problem
Unable to see all the pesticides (Version 1.1)
Solution
Rename the file ATXOLE.DLL with a new name (Such as XATXOLE.DLL)
then re-start the computer
Problem
I have upgraded and placed the system on a new drive,
now it doesn't work
Solution
This will cause the loss of the token. There is a way to
move the token - contact publications@bcpc.org
for a document that outlines the steps which need to be taken.
Networking
A network version of the ePM can be purchased by agreement.
Network prices are available from publications@bcpc.org.
Network installation
On the server
From the CD, run the program BCNetSetup.exe to install
the full version. When asked for a destination directory,
choose one that may be accessed by all the users who will
use the system. You will need 75 M of free disk space to
install the system.
This procedure will copy all the files onto the server. Each
workstation will link to the program and support files on
the server.
On the workstation
Create a map to the drive on the server where the full system
has been installed. Note that the same mapped drive will
need to be available each time the system is run and the
user will need to write to that drive.
Run the program setupw.exe (on the server). This will
install all the files required on the workstation. A shortcut
will also be created from the workstation to the programs
on the server. The system will place a user database on each
workstation where comments may be placed.
The first time the ePM is run from a workstation the system
will ask for an activation code (available from publications@bcpc.org).
The system needs to be activated before it may be used.
When the ePM is run, the system will check that the number
of simultaneous users is below the permitted limit - if not,
a message is displayed and the run is aborted.
Installation of V3.0 over older versions
Follow the above instructions on setting up a network system;
the default directory should be the same as where the current
version is located. There is no need to uninstall the older
version.
Once the system has been installed on the server, each user
will need to run the setup on their workstation. Note that
version 3.0 is not compatible with versions older than 2.1
(as they are 16 bit) and that any attempt to access the new
database with old software will fail.
The workstation installation procedure will offer to install
the system in the same location as the older version. If
this default is accepted, then any comments which were recorded
in the old version will be maintained in version 3.0. Should
the user wish to nominate a new location, but still wish
to keep the comments, then the file User.mdb should
be copied from the old location to the same directory as
User2.mdb in the new directory before the program
is run.
